Dia de les Illes Balears – Balearic Islands Day

Date: 01 March, 2026

Location: Across Mallorca and the Balearic Islands

On March 1st, Mallorca joins the other Balearic Islands—Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera—in celebrating Dia de les Illes Balears, a public holiday that commemorates the Statute of Autonomy of 1983. This day marks the islands’ recognition as an autonomous community within Spain, and it's a time to honour their shared heritage, unique culture, and vibrant identity.

The celebrations spread across the island, featuring artisan markets, traditional dance performances, music concerts, and gastronomic fairs. Local products take centre stage at the Fira del Producte Local, where you can explore stalls brimming with handcrafted pottery, textiles, and delicious Balearic delicacies like sobrassada and ensaimadas.

Additionally, many public buildings open their doors for free tours, and various workshops, children’s activities, and sports competitions are organised, ensuring a festive atmosphere for all ages. Whether you’re sampling local treats, enjoying live music, or learning about Mallorcan craftsmanship, Balearic Islands Day is an unmissable cultural experience.

Fira del Fang – The Pottery Fair

Date: 7 - 15 March, 2026

Location: Sant Marçal, Marratxí

Celebrating its 40th anniversary, the Fira del Fang is a tribute to Mallorca's rich pottery tradition, particularly rooted in the towns of Pòrtol and Sa Cabaneta, known for their centuries-old craftsmanship. Held in Sant Marçal, this week-long fair gathers local artisans, as well as potters from the Iberian Peninsula and abroad, showcasing unique and exclusive handcrafted ceramics.

Visitors can watch potters at work, participate in workshops, and explore hundreds of stalls featuring traditional and modern clay pieces, including siurells—iconic whistle figures painted in white with vibrant red and green brushstrokes, beloved by locals and international artists alike.

One of the fair's highlights is the Ruta Fang Tapa, where local bars and restaurants serve delectable Mallorcan dishes on handcrafted pottery plates. This culinary route offers a delightful blend of gastronomy and tradition, making the Fira del Fang an unforgettable cultural and sensory experience.

Fira Bona XIII – Fira del Cavall

Date: 6 - 8 March, 2026

Location: Palmanyola

For many years, Fira Bona has been closely associated with Mallorca’s equestrian culture. Horses have been at the heart of the celebration, drawing breeders, riders and visitors interested in rural traditions and island heritage. Previous editions have typically featured horse parades and exhibitions, riding demonstrations, medieval combat displays, artisan stalls and food markets showcasing local produce. Beyond the equestrian programme, the fair has also functioned as an important social fixture, bringing together live music, street entertainment and traditional Mallorcan gastronomy in the heart of Palmanyola.

For 2026, the organising committee says it is time to rethink the concept. Under the motto “Un Pas en el Temps” (A Step Back in Time), Palmanyola itself will become the stage for an immersive historical journey spread across the entire village. Rather than a series of scheduled shows, the organisers describe a continuous experience in which visitors move through themed environments, performances and visual storytelling over the course of three days. Plans outlined so far include historically inspired settings integrated into public spaces, live performances unfolding throughout the weekend, and a redesigned market and food offering aligned with the event’s narrative.

Full details of the programme are expected to be announced closer to the event, but the emphasis, organisers say, will be on atmosphere and participation.

From cultural celebrations and traditional crafts to equestrian spectacles, March in Mallorca is a month of celebration. Whether you're exploring local markets, admiring skilled pottery artisans, or cheering on equestrian athletes, these events provide a chance to connect with the island's heritage.

So, mark your calendar, embrace the festive spirit, and experience the best of Mallorca this March!
