2026 Total Solar Eclipse

On the evening of 12 August 2026, Mallorca will become the stage for one of the most remarkable natural spectacles Europe has witnessed in more than a century. For just over a minute, daylight will dissolve into an uncanny twilight as the Moon passes directly between the Earth and the Sun, bringing a total solar eclipse to much of the Balearic Islands. Then, as night falls, the annual Perseid meteor shower will reach its peak beneath almost perfectly moonless skies - a rare convergence of celestial events that has astronomers and travellers around the world looking towards the Mediterranean. For those fortunate enough to witness it, the evening promises to be truly unforgettable.

Last year was a landmark year for wildlife conservation across the Balearic Islands. The region's network of Wildlife Recovery Centres (Centros de Recuperación de Fauna Silvestre, or CRFS) wrapped up 2025 having cared for more animals than at any point in their history — a total of 7,637 creatures across all four islands.

A year ago my husband, two young daughters and I relocated from Melbourne, Australia to Mallorca to experience other cultures and learn other languages. We setup home in Pollença, a 13th Century village in the north of the island, all narrow cobbled lanes, beautiful sandstone buildings that lead to a square full of cafes and a church built by the Knights Templar.
