Nit Multicultural 2025 | Festes de Santa Maria | Santa Maria Festival, Sa Coma
24-25 July 2025
By Claire Miller
Each July, the coastal town of Sa Coma on the eastern shores of Mallorca comes alive with a celebration that reflects the growing diversity and warm hospitality of the region. As part of the Festes de Santa Maria, the Nit Multicultural stands out as one of the most anticipated evenings, blending international food, music, and culture into one vibrant street festival.
The Nit Multicultural has been a fixture of Sa Coma’s summer festivities since at least 2013, originally conceived as a way to celebrate the area’s cultural diversity—both local and international. What began as a small community gathering has steadily evolved into a major event. By 2018, it featured over 25 stands offering global cuisine, folk music, and traditional dances. Each year, it continues to grow in scale and creativity, now drawing visitors and residents from across the island.
What to Expect in July 2025
The Nit Multicultural typically takes place mid-July, as part of the week-long celebrations honouring Santa Maria. The event is hosted along Avinguda de les Palmeres, the main promenade in Sa Coma, which transforms into a bustling hub of food and festivity.
Visitors can sample dishes from over 30 food stalls representing countries from every continent. Past editions have included food from India, Mexico, Hungary, Argentina, Libya, China, Italy, and of course, traditional Mallorcan cuisine. The atmosphere is casual and inviting, with small plates and drinks priced for sampling, encouraging culinary exploration.
The evening kicks off with a parade of “gegants”—large papier-mâché figures accompanied by traditional Mallorcan musicians. Throughout the night, expect a mix of traditional and contemporary performances:
Ball de Bot (traditional folk dance)
Flamenco and Latin dance troupes
Percussion ensembles like Batucada Kintrofa
Local musical groups
These performances typically build toward a street procession and live concert that keep the energy high well into the night.
Once the food stalls and traditional shows wrap up, the night often continues with modern music—local pop bands, DJs, and open-air dance sessions. Recent festivals have featured orchestras, party bands, and contemporary Mallorcan acts delivering high-energy, danceable sets.
Why Visit?
The Nit Multicultural is more than just an event—it’s a snapshot of modern-day Mallorca, where longstanding traditions meet the rhythms and flavours of the world. Visitors will find:
An authentic, community-driven atmosphere
Welcoming locals and expatriates mingling side-by-side
A showcase of culture that’s inclusive and family-friendly
Excellent opportunities to try diverse cuisines in one place
Beyond the night itself, the full Festes de Santa Maria offer daytime activities including beach clean-ups, sports tournaments, foam parties, and children’s games—making it an excellent week-long destination for families and groups.
For those visiting Mallorca in July 2025, the Nit Multicultural in Sa Coma is a must-experience event. It offers a rare chance to sample the world in one night—through food, music, and shared celebration. Rooted in tradition but looking outward, it reflects the open, diverse, and community-first spirit of today’s Balearic Islands.
