The Fira de l’Arròs Pobler is a relatively young but fast-growing autumn fair, entirely dedicated to celebrating Sa Pobla’s rice. Created to highlight the town’s agricultural traditions and showcase the versatility of its rice, the event has evolved into a major gastronomic and cultural happening that now attracts visitors from across Mallorca and beyond.
Sa Pobla lies in the fertile northern plain of Mallorca, between the Tramuntana foothills and the Albufera wetlands. For centuries, the town has been one of the island’s agricultural strongholds. It is especially known for its potatoes and, more recently revived, its rice fields in the marshlands. Rice cultivation, once almost lost, returned in the 1990s and today is a symbol of local pride, with the dish arròs brut (“dirty rice”) standing out as the area’s culinary emblem.
Key dates in 2025
The 2025 edition will be held on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 November. As in previous years, the main festivities will take place across the weekend, with possible smaller activities and exhibitions in the days leading up to it.
What the fair is about
At its heart, the fair honours local rice culture—its cultivation in the wetlands, its role in everyday meals, and its culinary creativity. Around this central theme, visitors can enjoy:
Show cookings and tastings: The highlight is the large communal preparation of arròs brut pobler, a rustic, richly spiced rice dish.
Gastronomic routes: Local restaurants and bars design special menus featuring rice in creative forms, offering visitors a chance to taste both tradition and innovation.
Market stalls and local products: Producers and artisans fill the central streets and Plaça Major with craftwork, agri-food items, and regional delicacies.
Cultural traditions: Folk music, xeremiers (traditional Mallorcan bagpipers), parades of giants, and performances give the fair a strong community feel.
Art and family activities: Exhibitions, children’s workshops, and creative showcases add to the festive, all-ages atmosphere.
